After three rounds of 9-ball banks, roughly 140 players remain. Still undefeated are Alex “The Lion” Pagulayan, Shannon Daulton, Cliff Joyner, Beau Runningen, Sylver Ochoa, Johnathan Pinegar, and Efren Reyes.
Previous top finisher Louis DiMarco, Jr. and two-time bank pool champ Larry Price have both been eliminated. DiMarco suffered a 3-0 loss to Glenn Rogers AKA “Piggy Banks” in the Accu-stats arena. Rogers ran five with ball in hand in rack two before closing out the final game.
Feature match up of the day was between former champions Brian Gregg and Jason Miller. Gregg, having not played seriously since March, was feeling shaky but still managed to keep a lead and take it to the hill and the final ball. Unfortunately for him, his efforts were just shy of the win. Miller remains undefeated and will return tomorrow for round 4.
Another thrilling match on the feature table was between reigning bank pool champ John Brumback and Scott Frost, AKA “The Freezer.” Together, they hosted a banking clinic for the packed house. After winning the lag, Brumback started off strong with five and out from his own break. Feeling the heat, Frost played cautiously during the second game causing Brumback to rebut with world-class safeties of his own. At hill-hill, both players fought for the case ball which ultimately went to Brumback.
The 64-player bank pool mini kicked off tonight with a full field. One-pocket begins at noon tomorrow while banks continue in the morning.
