The CAT Season Finale is being held this weekend at Champion Billiards and Sports Café in Rockville, Maryland. The field consisted of 20 players, including the top two point leaders Ellie Chang and Sueyen Rhee, who are in a tight race for the coveted Player of the Year. The annual winner is awarded an invitational spot at each WPBA Classic Tour event. Winning this series of invitational spots has often been the springboard for the recipient towards turning touring pro. Jennifer Barretta, who was the 2002 CAT Player of the Year, recently earned her Touring Pro status.
The field was tough and included the return of former Maryland State, Virginia State, and two time Delaware State Champion Karen "The Queen of Mean" Armstrong. New York players, Ellie "Cha-Ching" Chang, Carol "The Hawaiian Headhunter" Clark, Ohio top player Gail Grecar, and the silent and deadly Tennessee player Buffy "The Nine-Ball Slayer" Jolie.
Local powerhouse Amanda Smith, a name that will be seen more often in the coming years, along with Grecar, Armstrong and Evelyn Hazlett are the four on the winners bracket and Chang, Clark, Jolie and Rhee all coming through the one-loss bracket going into day two.
