The 2004 Carolinas Open got underway on Wednesday at Fast Eddies Sports Bar and Grill in Goldsboro, NC with the $3,300 added one pocket division. While not expected to draw even close to the number of players that are expected by Friday when the $10,000 added 9-ball event gets underway, the one pocket still drew 56 players with some of the biggest names in one pocket today.
The field contains such notables as Scott Frost, Tony Chohan, Ray Martin, Grady Mathews, Keith McCready, Jeremy Jones, Danny Basavich, Buddy Hall, David Gutierrez, Mike Davis, Rodney Morris and Larry Nevel in addition to many other top flight players.
With almost all of round one complete, the only real surprise was Grady Mathews’ quick trip to the one-loss side. The rest of the top players advanced to round two. An intriguing match-up that could be brewing would be Scott Frost vs Tony Chohan. Frost has already won two matches and if Chohan defeats Walter Skipper, the two will meet up in the third round.
Brackets are online and will be updated all week for both the one-pocket and 9-ball divisions. Diana Hoppe with Pool Pics by Hoppe will arrive on Friday and we will have images from the event all weekend long.
