The final hours of the 2007 Carolina Open nine-ball event at Fast Eddie's
Sports Bar and Grill in Goldsboro, North Carolina, are coming on quickly.
By around 8 p.m., the field had officially narrowed down to sixteen
players and one by one players were being sent home. We saw matches
such as Louis Ulrich defeat Sparky Ferrell, Shaun Wilkie upset Mike
Davis, and Robb Saez took down Alex Kopel.
There was even a hot match of the day on the one-loss side between Earl
Strickland and Johnny Archer – both fighting for their lifeline.
This go-round, Archer would come out on top and send Strickland home
in 13th-16th place – along with Strickland,
the following men settled for the same placing: Larry Faulk, Mike Fuller,
and Mike Gulyassey.
After 10:30 p.m., the final eight players finally took shape.
The final four on the winner side of the bracket ended up being Robb
Saez, Louis Ulrich, Shannon Daulton, and Robert Ray. After a very
long day, the last few on the one-loss side are matched up for Sunday:
Johnny Archer will play Mike Davis, and Chuck Altomare will face Gabe
Owen.
The road to the finals will continue Sunday at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m.,
6 p.m., 8 p.m., 10 p.m. If you make it to Fast Eddies, please
stop by and say thank you to Buxton Turner as he has been providing
updates to us all week.
