Hagerstown Billiards & Café in Maryland hosted the 4th stop of the Tiger Pool Tour on April 21/22. A field of 55 players came out for a special 8 ball event in the Open Division. This was a $2000 added event due to the generosity of the room owner Roger Munson and the growing list of tour sponsors.
The action got underway right in the first round as rivals Jerry Slivka and Matt Clatterbuck matched up. Excellent shooting on both sides kept both players in the match and it was the current points leader Slivka earning the 7-4 victory. His celebration was short lived as the highly regarded Shaun Wilkie defeated him by a comfortable 7-2 score. Local Hagerstown veteran favorite Carl "Punky" Jones won his first 3 matches easily including a 7-2 win over Brett Stottlemyer to put himself in the final four undefeated going into Sunday. Jones was joined by tour regulars Brandon Shuff, Wilkie and Kevin West.
Sunday started out with two 7-1 lopsided wins as Jones defeated Shuff and West bested Wilkie. A long drawn out winner side final was won by Jones coming back at the end to win 7-5. The elimination bracket was all about Stottlemyer as he topped Clatterbuck 6-4, Corey Fogle 6-1, Wilkie 6-2, Mike Davis 6-2 and West 6-4 to reach the final. The single set final race to 8 was hard fought and reached hill-hill. A tough game of strategy ensued with Jones holding the upper hand. Jones came out on top 8-7 for his first Tiger Tour win. 1st paid $1000 with $750 for 2nd.
18 ladies entered the Sunday Women's division. There was some very strong play early on as My-Hanh Lac cruised into the winner side final. Cheryl Squire and Falon Farleigh also had some strong wins before matching up. The much improved Farleigh won this one 7-5 to meet up with Lac. The hot seat match was competitive with Lac taking a 7-4 win.
Gwen Dickert bounced back from a first round loss to Squire to win 5 matches in the elimination bracket. This put her in a rematch with Squire where she sent her home in 4th place 5-1. Farleigh wanted a rematch of her own with Lac and ended Dickert's run. The single set final race to 9 was never in doubt as Lac took every opportunity to win 9-1. This was Lac's 3rd win in 4 events this year staking her claim as the player to beat this year. 1st was worth $425 with Farleigh earning $280.
