Calhoun Collects Eastern Carolina Cup

Belinda Calhoun and Gerry Shepherd

There may be other room owners as passionate but none could be more passionate and love our sport more than retired marine Gunnery Sergeant Gerry Shepherd, owner of Mickey Milligan’s in New Bern, North Carolina, host of the Tiger SMART Eastern Carolina Cup 9-Ball Championship July 13th.  Shepherd runs an immaculate room which he opened in 1997, filled with all hand-made bar, counters, cabinets, and even free lockers.  Pictures of players surround the walls and the regulars such as “Limo,” “T-Rex,“ and “G-Force“ round out this picture of an ideal pool room.

Round robin play showcased two local players Lindsey Walton and Melissa Ipock. These two young ladies are well on their way and destined to make an impact in the WPBA of the future. Heather Lakatos is on the definite improve and proved so with her third place finish.  Cheryl Pritchard, 2013 Virginia State 8-Ball Champion, carried Calhoun hill-hill for her only loss, finished in 2nd place, worth $225, and Belinda Calhoun was undefeated in match play to collect the title and $400.

Tiger SMART would like to thank Tiger Products, Aramith, and Simonis for their continued support and also a sincere thanks to Mickey Milligan’s and all its patrons for a wonderful weekend of pool.  Plans for a November event are in the works and dates will be released asap.
