The Viking Cue Amateur 9-Ball Tour got their inaugural season underway with a field of 62 players at Fiddlestix Billiard Café in Canton, OH this weekend. With the tournament being a one day affair, it looked like the players might be in for a late night finish. That wasn't the case as tournament director Matt Janis moved the tournament along quickly and had the entire event done in just over 10 hours.
Brian Alfredo took the hot-seat with a 5-3 win over Cordell King. King found an 'in-stroke' Don Wells waiting for him on the one-loss side. Wells had won his first two matches and then lost to Jim Davis to start a run of eight matches on the one-loss side. Davis rolled over King 5-0 to set up the final match with Alfredo. The 5-0 win over King might have drained the last drop of gas from Wells' gas tank as Alfredo handed Wells the same 5-0 beating that Wells had just handed to King.
Alfredo earned $765 for first place, while Well took home $600 in prize money. King and Ben Zimmer filled out the top four spots.
The Amateur Tour will be at Northfield Billiards in Northfield, OH on Sept 4th for their next event, while the main Viking Cue Tour will be at Fiddlestix next weekend for their next event.
