Carlo Biado romped off to a strong start en route to beating Richard Pornelosa, 7-3, in an all-Bugsy finals to rule the 48-man winner-take-all tournament last week at the One Side Billiards in Ermita, Manila.
It was a bounce-back victory for the 24-year-old rising star from La Union, who narrowly missed winning his first major title as he lost to veteran internationalist Ramil Gallego in the finals of the First Senate President Manny Villar Cup Bulacan Leg two Sundays ago.
“Winning this very tough tournament somehow eased my disappointment over my failure to win my first major title,” said Biado, who pocketed P25,000 for the feat.
“I just hope that it would give me the momentum as I try again to nail the big one. I'll try my best in Davao (the next leg of the Villar Cup),” he added.
Biado made it to the finals by taking the scalp of Jeff de Luna, 7-4, in the semifinals. Pornelosa defeated another Bugsy boy Benjie Guevarra, 7-4, in the other Final-Four match.
The one-day knockout tournament gather some of the best cue artists in the country, including 2007 World Pool runner-up Roberto Gomez and former Asian Games gold medalist Antonio “Gaga” Gabica.
