Bruce Berrong came out on top of a star studded field of 64 players at the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour stop at The Pool Room in Marietta, GA this weekend.
The field was full of top talent including Mike Davis, Scotty Townsend, Stevie Moore, BJ Ussery, Brian White and Paul Song as well as WPBA players Helena Thornfeldt and Monica Webb. Early favorite, Mike Davis, was not even able to make it out of Saturday's matches after losses to Webb and Townsend.
Berrong navigated his way to the quarter-final match with wins over Jesse Middlebrooks, Jay Pascua, Jim Forsyth, Helena Thornfeldt and Martin Roberts. His opponent in the match for the hot-seat was BJ Ussery who had scored wins over Joe Patterson, Johnny Carson, Ron Park, Monica Webb and Brian White on the way. Ussery won the match with Berrong 9-5 to send Berrong to the one-loss side.
On the one-loss side Berrong found Stevie Moore waiting. Moore had just beaten Paul Turner in a tight 9-7 match, but Berrong got ahead early and cruised to a 9-1 victory to set up the rematch with Ussery in the finals.
Berrong won the first set of the finals 9-4 and then won the second set 9-6 for the tournament win.
Berrong earned $1800 for first, while Ussery took home $1150 for second. Moore and Turner filled out the top four spots.
The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour will be at Murphy's Brass Rail Billiards in Athens Ga next weekend for their next stop, and will be at The Pool Room II in Duluth Ga on February 26 - 27 for their $10,000 Double Regional Championship.
