The Arizona State BCA held their annual Scotch Doubles Championship on December 1st and 2nd at Metro Sportz Bar in Phoenix Arizona. 32 teams took their shots at the $1250 in added prize money.
Last year's winners Tony Confalone and Bernie Store were not there to defend their title, but Store teamed up with former Arizona State BCA Champion Larry Eans to form a very formidable pair.
The format for this event called for each male/female pair to race to five games with each BCA master on a team causing that team to go to an additional game.
When the smoke cleared Saturday night, Store and Eans were one of the four teams left undefeated along with Michaele Kedanis & Pete Gresh Sr., Lynn Shoemaker & Chris Shenker and John Bridges & Cathy Kelley.
Play got underway Sunday morning and saw Store/Eans and Shoemaker/Shenker win their matches to advance to the hot-seat match which was won by Store & Eans.
On the one loss side Susan and Mike Williams were on a tear after losing to Eans & Store on Saturday. Team Williams beat Tiger and Max Ramirez 5-2, Liz Bernreuter & Rodney Thompson 5-3 and then Kelley and Bridges 5-0.
Team Williams' next match was Kedanis and Gresh. Team Williams pulled ahead at 3-2, but Kedanis and Gresh came back to get to the hill first at 5-3 (they were racing to six). One more game for Kenadis and Gresh would end the run by Team Williams, but that last game would not come as Team Williams won the next two games for the victory.
Shoemaker and Shenker were the next to fall to Team Williams by a score of 5-2.
The double elimination finals would see Team Williams try to beat Store & Eans twice with Store and Eans racing to seven games. The time in the hot-seat showed some rust in the games of Store & Eans and Team Williams started out with a 2-0 lead. That lead was short lived as Store and Eans took control to win seven of the next eight games for a 7-3 win in the first set of the finals.
Eans & Store collected $1000 for first place, while Team Williams took home $600 for second.
