The weather was a scorcher at Fast Eddie's in Austin on July 18th. 28 ladies gathered for the ladies 9 ball event and the competition was equally as hot.
The top picks were Belinda Campos-Calhoun, Megan Minerich of Denver, Leslie Anne Rogers of Dallas-Fort Worth, Amanda Lampert of San Antonio, Deanna Henson of Pflugerville and Heather Pulford of Austin.
Finishing 7-8th were Jennifer Kraber and Kyu Yi. Both played hard and finished well.
Kim Pierce of Bastrop continues to play consistent and ended up in the 5-6th position. Amanda Lampert is having an incredible year by winning four events in a row. This week, she had to settle for a nice 5-6th finish. Great shooting to both these ladies!
Anne Mayes, a die hard Tour supporter and ex-pro player, donates one of her beautiful creations every tournament to be raffled for the entire ladies division add on. Not only can she make beautiful cues, she can play with one. Anne lost her first match to Heather Pulford when she kicked it up a notch as she handled Sharon Townsend , Cindy Cole, Shayla Neris, Jennifer Kraber and Amanda Lampert before running into a determined Rachel Hurst. Nice job and a strong 4th place finish, Anne!
Finishing in an impressive 3rd place was Rachel Hurst of Austin. Rachel documented wins over Lesa Moore, only to be derailed to the left side of the chart by Shayla Neris. Rachel, though, does not give up as she recorded wins over Sophie Lopez, Michelle Cortez, Deanna Henson, Kyu Yi, Kim Pierce and Anne Mayes. Then, she faced Megan Minerich in the finals of the one loss side, but had to settle for a great 3rd place finish.
Megan Minerich is a regular on the WPBA and has a lot of tournaments to her credit. She began the day with wins over Nicole Menitz, Audra Carter, Melinda Bailey, Kim Pierce and, then, met Belinda Campos-Calhoun for the hot seat. She came up short and had to face Rachel Hurst to get to the finals.
Belinda Campos- Calhoun, the seasoned pro, started with wins over Belinda Lee, Leslie Anne Rogers, Amanda Lampert and Megan to earn the hot seat.
Meanwhile, Megan and Rachel went to the wire with Megan prevailing. Now, it was time to face Belinda in the finals.
Megan played very solid, winning the first set, 7-2. In the second set, Belinda's experience and an unforgiving table prevailed. Belinda was a happy lady as she took home the cash. Congratulations to both ladies for a first class finals. The ladies event has always been fun and will continue to be so.
