Manila, Philippines---Filipino billiards great Efren "Bata" Reyes will slug it out with Asia's First Grandmaster Eugene Torre in the 64 square board, one of the highlights in the 1st Ingkong Gorio Canda Memorial Chess Tournament to be held today, January 21 to 22, 2006 at the Casino Filipino in Angeles City, Pampanga.
According to tournament arbiter National Master Andrew Vasquez, aside from one-on-one exhibition match between Reyes and Torre, the Filipino chess icon Torre will hold a 15 board simultaneous exhibition among Kapampangan player coincide the 1st Ingong Gorio Canda Memorial Chess Tournament.
On the other hand, Reyes, much known "The Magician" in the billiard circuit is fresh from defending his One Pocket Division crown of the Derby City Classic last Friday at the Executive West Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, USA---hometown of former world boxing champion Muhammad Ali.
Reyes, a protegee of RP billiard patron Aristeo "Putch" Puyat and Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines (BSCP) president Ernesto "Ernie" Fajardo takes home the top purse US$ 15,000.
