MAESTRO Efren “Bata” Reyes breathed a whiff of fresh air and cash yesterday going out of confinement at a local hospital in Angeles City, Pampanga.
The 52-year-old pool legend complained of high-fever and difficulty of breathing Sunday after the San Miguel Beer Philippine 9-Ball Tour at the Casino Filipino Pagcor Theater in Parañaque City .
He was diagnosed of having elevated blood sugar and asthma at the Angeles University Hospital .
The three days of rest brought Reyes back to his elements and the good news he received from longtime benefactor Aristeo “Putch” Puyat put him on a high.
Puyat, quoting International Pool Tour founder Kevin Trudeau, said that the negotiations and planning on executing documents relating to the Ho Interactive acquisition of the IPT is already on the final phase.
“Kevin promised to pay the players within the shortest amount of time,” Puyat said in a separate interview.
The Angeles City pool wizard beat American Rodney Morris, 13-5, in the finals enroute $500,000 top prize last August dubbed as Wordl Open 8-ball shoot-out in Reno, Nevada.
Meanwhile, Reyes doesn't think his illness will prevent him from contending in the World Pool Championship.
“I hope to win this event again.” added the 1999 edition winner.
Reyes had his worst finish in the WPC last year, crashing out in the group play in Kaohsiung , Taiwan .
It shall be recalled that Reyes complaining his poor eye sight last year in the World Pool Championship in Taiwan.
After a successful laser surgery last October at the American Eye Center in Shangrila Plaza in Mandaluyon City, Reyes beat twice Mike Sigel in the finals enroute $200,000 to prize last December in the King of the Hill in Orlando, Florida.
