Efren “Bata” Reyes will stake his tag as the best rotation player in the world against fellow former double world champion Ronnie Alcano in The Challenge of the Legend: The Maestro vs the Volcano slated on June 15 at the SM North Edsa in Quezon City.
The 55-year-old pool icon is regarded as the best all-around pool player in the planet and rotation is one of his fortes.
“Rotation is the original pool game of the Filipinos and Efren is the best in it, especially during his prime,” said Perry Mariano of Bugsy Promotions, which, along with Puyat Sports, is organizing the event sanctioned by the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines and supported by the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines.
“Actually, we believe that up to now Efren is still the best rotation player in the world, well, until Ronnie proves otherwise,” added Mariano.
Alcano is a self-proclaimed “Bata-wannabe”, emulating every Reyes's move--even removing all his teeth to look like the Magician. He also started his pool career as a rotation player.
The match will be a race-to-9 affair, which will be telecast live by Solar Sports with JBETpoker.net as sponsor and also supported by Negros Billiards Stable.
The event will have two undercards, the first of which is a four-way tag-team scotch doubles competition featuring the tandems of Dennis Orcollo-Gandy Valle (Bugsy), Alex Pagulayan-Francisco “Django”Bustamante (Puyat), Lee Van Corteza-Warren Kiamco (Negros) and Ramil Gallego-Rodolfo Luat (BMPAP).
The other supporting bout pits two-time World Juniors campaigner Rene Mar David against fellow rising star Johann “Bubwit” Chua in a race-to-five 9-ball match.
