The Pechauer West Coast Tour was in action this weekend at City Lights Billiards in Tacoma, WA with a field of 75 players competing for the $1500 in added prize money.
The story of the day on day one was upsets, as tourament favorites Rich Geiler, John Horsfall and Dan Louie were all eliminated early.
On the other side of the spectrum, was Glenn Atwell, who cruised through his matches relatively untested. Atwell defeated Raul Abenojar for the hot seat 9-6 in a rematch of the finals from October in Longview, WA. The six games that Abenojar scored against Atwell was the most anyone had won against Atwell all weekend.
Abenojar then took on Mike Vidas for the right to play Atwell again and the match could not have been any closer. With the score tied at 8-8, Abenojar went for the kill but missed an early combination on the nine. When the balls stopped rolling, Vidas had no shot and was forced to try a tough 4-9 carom. He missed the carom giving the table back to Abenojar, who ran out the rack from there to earn the 9-8 victory.
Atwell took control of the final match and led 6-1 early, but started to run out of gas towards the end. The final score was 13-11 with Atwell coming out on top for his second tour win this season.
Atwell earned $1000 for first place, with Abenojar settling for $700. Vidas and Soud filled out the top four places. The Pechauer West Coast Tour will be at Hard Times Billiards in Bellflower, CA on January 1st-2nd for their next event.
