Look out Atlanta! Sixty-four of the top-ranked women billiard professionals are coming together from around the world. For the first time in 15 years, the Women's Professional Billiard Association will host a WPBA Classic Tour event in October. The WPBA has not had a Classic Tour stop in Atlanta since 1995.
The Atlanta Billiard Show is the area's largest assembly of billiard suppliers and exhibitors, with amateur competitors, young and old alike. In its inaugural event, the show is featuring top professionals including Allison Fisher and Kelly Fisher from England, Karen Corr from Ireland, Korea's Ga Young Kim, Vivian Villarreal and Jeanette Lee from USA, and Austria's Jasmin Ouschan ? just to name a few of the WPBA stars that make this a truly international tour. Two of the WPBA's top 16-ranked players, Monica Webb and Helena Thornfeldt, from the Atlanta area, will join in this international competition!
The show kicks off with a fundraiser Wednesday, Sept. 29th, when the women pros team up with amateurs for an evening of fun competition. The proceeds will benefit both the top finisher of the Atlanta Billiard Show 19 and under junior event and the Billiard Education Foundation. The Billiard Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization that awards scholarships to youth involved in the sport of billiards.
On Thursday, Sept. 30th, the women get serious as first round play of the WPBA Atlanta Classic begins that morning. Play continues through Sunday, Oct. 3rd. The Sunday matches will be taped for ESPN airing at a later date.
The Atlanta Billiard Show is produced by WPBA touring pro and promoter Dawn Hopkins. In addition to the WPBA event, the weekend activities will include the Ultimate Trick Shot Tour Southeast Classic, the APA Southeast Fall Singles Regionals Championship, and several amateur events hosted by Hopkins Productions that include an open, women's, seniors and junior players. Exhibitors will be displaying all types of billiard products for retail sale, including some of the best cue makers in the world!
