Throughout the season, the SE Open 9-Ball Tour has had a number of different tour stop winners and it could easily be said that there was generally not any clear cut favorite as most events. But then again, most events don't take place in Johnny Archer's backyard. Archer led a top notch field of 51 players and won the SE Open 9-Ball Tour Season finale at Mr. Cues II in Atlanta, GA
The theme of the tournament this weekend seemed to be comebacks as no lead was safe at any time. As an example, early in the tournament Jonathan Hennessee trailed Paul Song by the score of 8-0 in a race to 9. Hennessee then took control of the match and won eight games of his own to tie the score at 8-8 before Song took back control and ran out a very tough rack for the the 9-8 win.
In the match for the hot-seat, Archer led David Broxson 7-1 in a race to nine and ended up losing eight straight games as Broxson took the match 9-7.
The loss to Broxson sent Archer to the one-loss side where he faced a determined Tony Crosby who was waiting for another shot at Archer. Earlier in the day on Sunday, Archer had faced Crosby on the winners side and led the match 6-0 before Crosby came back to 6-4. Archer regained control and won the match 9-6 to send Crosby to the left side of the board. The rematch was a more convincing win for Archer as he took the match 9-4 to earn the rematch with Broxson.
The finals started out with Archer taking a 3-0 lead before Broxson could win a game. Archer made sure that there would be no big comebacks in this match as he crushed Broxson 11-2 to earn first place.
Archer pocketed $1500 for the win, while Broxson took home $1120. Crosby and Brian Butler filled out the top four spots.
The SE Open 9-Ball tour will begin their new season on May 12th and 13th at the KO Corral Billiard Club in Enterprise Alabama.
