Johnny Archer completed an undefeated run with back-to-back wins over John Schmidt to earn a win at the first stop on the North American Open Tour at The Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa in Destin, FL.
Archer got started slow with Timmy Hall taking him to hill-hill before Archer pulled out the win in the second round. The third round was another close one with Archer scoring an 11-9 win over Tony Crosby. Archer then had an 11-8 win over Rodney Morris to get to the quarter final match. Archer took the hot-seat with an 11-8 win over John Schmidt in that match.
Prior to the match with Archer, Schmidt had been scoring some impressive wins with an 11-2 trouncing of Danny Harriman and then another 11-2 win over Jeremy Jones later in the event. After the loss to Archer, Schmidt went to the left side of the board where he ended Charlie Bryant's run. Bryant had dropped a hill-hill decision to Rodney Morris on the winner side and then won six straight matches on the one-loss side. Schmidt ended Bryant's tournament with an 11-5 match score.
With the win over Bryant, Schmidt earned the rematch with Archer in the finals but the result was the same as their previous meeting with Archer scoring an 11-6 win.
Archer earned $7000 for first place, while Schmidt settled for $4000. Bryant and Jeremy Jones filled out the top four spots. Check out all of the results with our online brackets.
