Misson Billiards, Alamogordo, New Mexico – October 27, 2007:
We had another successful and fun “Lights Out” Tournament, in part, to the generosity of our local sponsors Alamo Optical, Tularosa Basin Dermatology, ERA Simmons Real Estate, American Dream Mortgage, Pioneer Bank, Climate Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc., Accounting Professionals, and Lynch and Shulse Insurance, and Bonds. As always, the contribution from these sponsors is greatly appreciated.
What is a tournament without drama? Due to a scheduling snafu, most of the out-of-town players found themselves unable to secure a motel room and had to drive into Alamogordo on Saturday morning. Too late to change our tournament date, we discovered the Holloman AFB Air Show, X Prize competition, and Bulls Gone Wild bull riding event were scheduled for the same weekend. With the air show attendance over the weekend at an estimated 85,000 people, there were few rooms available for anyone else.
We had twenty-nine players and were just short of our full field of thirty-two. The matches started around 11:30 a.m. and ended around midnight. The action was nonstop with quite a few 9-ball breaks, more hill-hill matches, and great all around shooting. Our players hailed from El Paso, Deming, Albuquerque, and of course Alamogordo. Among those in attendance were WPBA Touring Pro Anna Kostanian, and Nick Tafoya who played and placed highest in his age division in the Derby City Classic this year, Louis Jenkins and Charlie Lusk, who've played this tournament for several years, and newcomer Leroy Jackson. Nick's brothers, Donavan and Mark (he celebrated his birthday on October 26, 2007), and his dad Robert also played.
Remainder of Field:
Chad Reagan, Shaun Lewis, Ed Schuh, Dean English, Joe Guerra, Luther
Craig, Robert Moseley, Vergie Catanach, Gene Catanach, Bill Bagwell,
Paul Moose, Charlie Lusk, Eric Crisp, Robert Tafoya, Nick Tafoya, Donovan
Tafoya, Ryan Franklin, Louis Jenkins, Jonathan Wheeler, Michael Wheeler,
and Leroy Jackson
We don't have a firm date yet, but our next bigger tournament will
be our Spring Fling Tournament. This tournament will take place
around Easter time. Information will be available as we firm up
plans.
