There are times that a player can get deep into a tournament partly through the luck of having a relatively easy draw. That was not the case for Amanda Lampert at the Texas Open Ladies Division.
Lampert was just one of the 28 players at G Cue Billiards in Round Rock, Texas over Labor Day Weekend. She had won the event in 2006, but suffered an embarassing "out of the money" performance last year.
That finish from last year may have proven to be a motivator for Lampert this year as she got off to a quick start. Lampert's first two wins were by a combined score of 14-1.
Lampert took down Kim Pierce, Shannyn Rivera, Melinda Bailey, Heather Lloyd and Bonnie Plowman on her way to the hot-seat. Plowman scored a hill-hill win over Lloyd on the one loss side to earn another shot Lampert in the finals, but she would have to beat Lampert twice to make up for the earlier loss.
A 7-4 win by Plowman was Lampert's first taste of defeat for the weekend and she obviously didn't care for the taste as she came back for a dominating 7-2 win over Plowman in the final set.
Lampert collected $750 for the win, with Plowman settling for $540 in second place prize money.
