Altes Takes Home Fury Win in Seminole

Thirty-seven players and a total purse of $1040 were on the scene at CM's Place in Seminole, Florida for the Fury Amateur 9-Ball tour event held on September 11, 2005.

By the evening the four players left on the winner's side were Tony Vicari who had just taken a 7-1 win, Brian Davalos who escaped a hill-hill match, Louis Altes with a 7-6 win over a local favorite, and Adam Wheeler with a 7-3 win. Vicari and Davalos then faced off with Davalos taking the match hill-hill to advance. Meanwhile Altes took down Wheeler 7-5 to make it into the hot seat match against Davalos.

Altes and Davalos squared up at 2-all in the beginning of the hot seat match but Altes was in top form and took off to win 7-2 and secure a spot in the final.

Davalos took to the left-side semifinals to face Wheeler who had just posted wins over Julio Aquino and Richie Oren to get a shot at Davalos. Davalos had shot strong all day but the table didn't roll his way and Wheeler captured the win 5-2 to make it to the finals.

The rematch between Altes and Wheeler for the finals started off with Altes jumping off to a 4-2 lead. Wheeler hung the 7 in the next rack and Altes cleaned it up to lead 5-2. Everything was going in for Altes and he continued to fire at Wheeler taking an 8-3 lead in the race to 9 final. It looked like the end when Altes ran the rack down to the 9 but he hung it letting Wheeler get to 8-4. An open shot on the 4-ball in the next rack led to Altes making another run for it, this time closing the deal to win the match 9-4.
