David Alcaide has defeated Darren Appleton 9-2 in the playoff for the bronze medal at the 2011 World 8-Ball Championship in Fujairah, UAE.
The match was a close one early, but with the score tied at 2-2 Alcaide took control of the match.
Appleton would have two chances at the table late in the match, but it appeared as if his heart just wasn't in the match as he was unable to convert either opportunity into a win for him.
Alcaide will earn the bronze medal at tonight's awards ceremony, in addition to $14,000 in prize money. Appleton will settle for $10,000 in prize money.
The finals of the tournament, pitting Dennis Orcullo against Niels Feijen, will take place later this afternoon.
