A small but strong field of 24 players made their way to Racks Billiards Lounge in Astoria, NY for the NYC Open 9-Ball Championship this weekend. What the crowd might have been lacking in numbers, was made up for in talent with players like Frankie Hernandez, Jason Brown, Eddie Vasquez, Danny Barouty, Robb Saez, Eddie Abraham, Chuck Altomare, Jarrod Clowery and Joe Tucker in attendance.
Sean 'Alaska' Morgan took the hot-seat with wins over Clowery and Tom Walter. Walter navigated his way though the one-loss side to earn the rematch with Morgan in the true double elimination finals.
Walter won the first set of the finals 9-5 and due to the late hour, the players agreed to play the final set to five to determine a winner. That winner would be Morgan who won the final set 5-3.
Morgan collected $1700 for first, while Walter settled for $900 in second place prize money. Jean Theriault and Jason Brown filled out the top four spots.
While the turn-out might have been small, the promoters were pleased with the event and are promising more events in the future.
