Things were running pretty smoothly at the Tri-State Tour stop on Sunday, October 28, when tournament officials and players were informed of the potential closing of the Verrazano Bridge, connecting Brooklyn to Staten Island and beyond, to New Jersey. Though Hurricane Sandy wouldn't arrive until the next day, Tri-State tour representatives, at approximately 7:45, postponed the $1,250-added, B-D handicapped event that had drawn 34 entrants to Gotham City Billiards in Brooklyn.
At the time, Orlando Forgie had just gotten into the hot seat, sending Tony Ignomirello to the semifinals. On the loss side, matches had not proceeded past the two that would determine the tie for 7th place.
The plan, at present, is to resume the October 28 tour stop where it left off, when the Tri-State Tour returns to Gotham City Billiards on the first weekend in December. Recovery efforts in the wake of the devastating storm, and gas lines that stretch for miles also led Tri-State officials to postpone this weekend's November 4 tour stop, which was to have been hosted by BQE Billiards in Jackson Heights.
