Cassidy Mulligan took possession of first place in the Bay Area Amateur Tour standings with an undefeated day on Saturday, September 1. She got by tour director Stephanie Mitchell twice, spoiling Mitchell's bid to win a stop on her own tour, something she hasn't been able to do since July of last year. The $180-added event drew 9 entrants to Stroker's in Palm Harbor, FL.
From among the winner' side final four, Mulligan squared off against Sabra Beahn, as Mitchell took on Deanna Foster. Once Mulligan had sent Beahn west 5-3, and Mitchell had downed Foster 6-3, they faced each other for the first time. With Mitchell racing to 7, Mulligan got into the hot seat with a 5-5 victory, and waited for her return.
Foster moved over to tackle Jessica Barnes, who'd defeated Lisa McElroy 6-1. Beahn picked up Jamie Toennies, who'd gotten by Mary Lou Mendez 7-1. Barnes and Beahn advanced to the quarterfinals with identical 6-2 victories over Foster and Toennies. Beahn won those quarterfinals 4-2, and got to face the 'boss' - Mitchell - in the semifinals (Beahn assists Mitchell with the tour).
Mitchell, anxious to get back for a second chance against Mulligan, defeated Beahn 4-2, and got her chance. Mulligan, though, repeated her hot seat effort and completed her undefeated day with another 5-5 victory.
Next stop on the BAAT will be the season finale, scheduled for October 20, at Capone's in Spring Hill, FL. Mulligan will enter the tournament at the top of the standings, just ahead of Jessica Barnes, with Lisa McElroy in third place.
