Willie Oney worked his way through a small field of 14 entrants on hand for the May 7 stop on the Dishaw Cues Central New York Tour, and completed the single-day, $300-added event undefeated. It was Oney's second win on the 2011 tour, with both wins occurring at Shooter's Billiards in Fulton, NY.
Oney had to get by Joe Giancarelli twice to chalk up the victory, and did so first, among the winners' side final four. He shut out his eventual finals opponent in their first meeting, as Gary Lloyd was busy defeating Dave Howard in a double hill battle. Oney gained the hot seat with an 8-3 victory over Lloyd.
Giancarelli moved over to face Jason Reese, who'd defeated Chris Schuck 7-5 and Mike Stanton 7-3. Howard squared off against Mark Creamer, who gave up only four racks in defeating Peter Servello (1) and Brian Lipes (3). Howard and Giancarelli advanced to the quarterfinals with identical 7-3 victories over Creamer and Reese.
With one down and two to go on the one-loss side, Giancarelli defeated Howard 7-4 in the quarterfinals, and then shut out Gary Lloyd in the semifinals. Though Giancarelli improved on the previous shutout among the winners' side final four, Oney prevailed a second time 8-3 to capture the event title.
