Dan Brien won the ninth stop on the Lucasi Hybrid New England 9-Ball Series with an undefeated trip through a field of 28 entrants, on Sunday, December 19th at Legends Billiards in Portsmouth, NH. The $100-added, amateur event was the second tour win for Brien, who'd come back from a defeat in the hot seat in October to win the tour's third stop at Sebago Lake Billiards in Windham, ME.
From among the winners' side final four, Brien sent Brad Pepin to the west bracket 5-2, as Don Clement (a “C-“ player) was dispatching Adam Vidal (a “C”) in a handicapped double hill win. Brien got into the hot seat with a 7-3 win over Clement, who'd be back for the finals.
Pepin moved over to pick up Laddy Mills, who'd gotten by Gill Stadig 6-1 and Gregg Morse 6-3. Vidal drew Fedial Cabral, who'd downed Joe Meuse 4-5, and Alan Dechaine 5-2. Pepin moved into the quarterfinals with a 4-5 victory over Mills. Cabral joined him with a 4-3 win over Vidal. Pepin made it two down and one to go for a second chance at Brien with 5-3 victory over Cabral in the quarterfinals, but was stopped by Clemont 4-5 in the semifinals.
Brien took the opening set of the true double elimination final 7-3 to secure the win, his second on the tour.
