November 20-21, 2010, the Women's Professional Billiards Association (WPBA) Amateur 9-Ball National Championships will be hosted by Wynkoop Brewing Company (www.wynkoop.com) in Denver, CO.
Melissa Little (aka The Viper) -- house pro at Wynkoop since 2004, WPBA touring professional and 3rd ranked player in the USA -- won this event back in 1999. Little is honored to be able to give back to the pool community and host this year's event.
“We haven't had a major women's pool event in Denver in over ten years,” Little says. “This is a big deal for local billiards, Wynkoop and the city.” Little won the tournament back in 1999. “This tournament was my last amateur hurrah before I turned pro in '99,” she says.
The event is open to the public and spectator seating will give fans the chance to watch some of the nation's best amateur players compete for the title. Doors will open at 9 AM Saturday, November 20th, 2010 and there is no admission charge. The Wynkoop is located at 1634 18th street, in downtown Denver, CO.
This title event (with a $1,500 purse addition from Wynkoop Brewing) will also be streamed live through www.JBGTV.com, www.melissalittle.com & www.wpba.com starting Saturday November 20th, 2011 at 9 AM mountain standard time.
The WPBA Amateur Nationals have produced a number of the sport's current stars. Past winners include the top-ranked player in the world, Jasmin Ouschan (winner of the 2002 amateur championship), the current 5th ranked player in the world (Kelly Fisher, 2004 champion), and the 11th in world/2nd in US player (Monica Webb, 1998 champion). Little is currently ranked 13th in the world.
The entry fee for players in this prestigious event is $75 and includes the WPBA membership fee. Players who are already members of the WPBA through a regional tour will only pay $50. The deadline for late entries has been extended to this Monday, November 14th, 2010. For additional information on host hotels, venues, and tournament formats please visit www.melissalittle.com
