Keith Bennett rolled undefeated through a short field of 11 entrants on hand for the Jacoby Custom Cue Carolina Tour on the weekend of October 1-3. The $1,000-added event was hosted by On The Snap Billiards in Fuquay Varina, NC.
From among the winners' side final four, Bennett got into the hot seat match with a shutout over B.J. Ussery. Michael Fuller, in the meantime, sent Sam Monday to the one-loss bracket 7-5. Bennett then defeated Fuller 7-5 to gain the hot seat.
On the one-loss side, Monday picked up Chris Turner, who'd defeated Chase Campbell in a double hill match, and Peaches Fuller 7-4. Following wins over Gilbert Combs 7-2 and Delton Howard 7-4, Cary Dunn met Ussery. Monday got by Turner 7-2 and moved into the quarterfinals versus Ussery, who'd defeated Dunn 7-4. Monday got into the first money match, the semifinals, with a 7-4 win over Ussery, and then fell to Fuller 7-5.
In the beginning, the extended race-to-11 finals looked to be a competitive matchup. Bennett opened with a win and Fuller tied it up. Bennett chalked up two in a row to make it 3-1 and Fuller answered to tie it up again. From there, though, it was all Bennett. Although at one point in what followed, Fuller made a spectacularly entertaining jump/bank shot (he jumped the cue to hit the 2-ball, which struck the 8 and crossed sides to drop into a pocket), Bennett won eight straight to complete his undefeated run.
A four-entrant Early Bird tournament on Friday night was won by Solomon Pope in an $80, 7-2 finals win over Oliver Smith. Smith and Cary Dunn were the only two entrants for a Second Chance Tournament on Sunday night, with Dunn picking up $20 for the single 9-3 win. B.J. Ussery's name was drawn to compete in the break and run contest with the jackpot at $114 per ball. He sunk three balls and pocketed $142. Cary Dunn defeated Ussery for $20 in the break contest. The Limited Edition Jacoby Custom Cue, valued at $600, was won Charles Cowper in the event raffle.
