The second annual U.S. Open $1000 added qualifier hosted by Dwight Sisson will be held over the weekend of September 18th-20th at Pockets Pub and Pool in Tallahassee, Florida. The field is open to all players with races to seven on the no-loss side and five on the one-loss side - the final race will be to thirteen.
The entry this time around is a mere $125, which covers not only green fees but offers a player's buffet for the duration of the tournament. This year's event promises to be bigger and better than last. Based on a field of sixty-four players, the tournament director hopes to send a total of six players to the coveted U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships in Chesapeake, Virginia October 18-24, 2009. For more information on the event, visit www.usopen9ballchampionships.com
The qualifying event has taken on several sponsors this year - Delta-13 racks is the official rack of the tournament. In addition, Kamui tips has joined the crew as well as Robin Dodson - Dodson donated a Drake Bell cue and case for the United Way. Crown Cues will be represented by Gene and Renee La Viness. Many thanks for your support!
Some fun entertainment on the side: "Blackjack" David Sapolis will sink 10,000 balls Friday and Saturday to raise money for a local charity - United Way of the Big Bend. Sapolis will start his exhibition at approximately 12 pm on Friday and continue through to 12 am the same evening. Then, will start up again around 12 pm on Satuday, until he reaches his goal. A link for donations www.uwbb.org has been set up for those of you that want to donate but can't attend. The hope is to help the children of the United Way - pool related artwork from some of the kids this will affect, will be available via auction at the event.
If you need your cues repaired or are looking for a new fine cue to shoot with, Tom Gedris from Triple Cross Cues will be onhand to help you out. If you would like a preview of what will be onsite, visit www.triplecrosscues.com.
Live streaming will be available should you not be in the area over the weekend, along with local television and most media outlets that are scheduled to be in place.
A few specifics, dress code is casual, however, it is asked of the players to present yourself in a respectable way. Extended Stay in the area has offered a special rate of $44.99 per night if you haven't already made accommodations - the contact is Stephanie at (850) 241-2014.
