Malarkey's Pool & Brew in Tacoma, Washington, held its first Wednesday night $1000 added qualifier February 6, 2008. The Tournament was set up with a race to three on both sides, using modified Texas Express rules.
In all, twenty-two players qualified by playing the stipulated ten out of twenty week period for their seat in the finals. Although Alex ‘The Truth' LaFountaine was not a favorite going into this tournament, he showed what it took from losing early on, then coming through the one-loss only to defeat Pete Semoe (3-0). Ken Phillipi had won the point, so LaFountaine would have to beat him two races to three. The first set was easily won 3-1, then the 2nd set was won 3-2, with two early nine balls.
