Doug Young Ends the Weekend as Steel City Winter 9-Ball Champion

Doug Young

Breakers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, hosted the Steel City Winter 9-Ball Tournament the weekend of January 19th and 20th. This $2000 added open nine-ball event, which was played on nine foot Diamond Professional tables, saw names such as Matt Clatterbuck, Manual Chau, and Brandon Shuff entered into the total field of twenty-eight players.

On Sunday, the event dwindled down to the final six players. The first casualties of the six remaining were Shane Hennen and Brandon Shuff. All the while, the winner's side hot seat match was being played between Matt Clatterbuck and Manual Chau, with Clatterbuck coming out on top to seal his spot in the final round.

Chau waited while his next opponent finished up in the quarter-finals. The quarters saw Doug Young end Gary Nolan's race to the finals 7-4, then continue his momentum into the semi-finals to defeat Chau on the hill 7-6. This set-up the final round match-up which was a single race to ten against hot seat winner Matt Clatterbuck. Young was on a great run by the time he reached the finals, so it was not a surprise that he would be able to continue to drive himself through to the end and ultimately take the win over Clatterbuck 10-6.

Special thanks to the management and staff at Breakers and to the event sponsors, Paul Mottey Cues and Zenner Vending.
