(Miami, Florida) September 11, 2007-- New Wave Billiards is setting the stage to celebrate 18 years as a local hot spot. On Thursday Oct. 4, 2007, New Wave will open its doors for guests to be part of this event that will take place in the newly refurbished location that has been a haven for billiard enthusiasts, college students, and plenty of first dates.
Billiard enthusiast Hernando “Nando” Pineres made his way to Miami from Colombia 44 years ago with his wife Silvia Pineres by his side. The father of 6 children and 15 grandchildren has owned several businesses in Miami over the years but had a dream as a billiard fanatic to own and operate his own billiard hall that would cater to the masses. He always felt that billiards was an elegant sport that had a tainted image. Hernando went on to make the biggest billiard hall in Miami housing 30 pool tables and 6 European billiard tables. Now years later he invites the public to celebrate 18 years in the business as well as 61 years with his beloved wife, Silvia.
The complimentary event will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony by city, county and government officials to include (on behalf of Mayor Carlos Alvarez) Wayne Carter, Asst. Director of Constituent Services for Miami-Dade County, Commissioner Joe Martinez, and State Representative Anitere Flores. A quick pool tournament between FIU fraternities will determine fraternity supremacy and benefit FIU's charity the “Torch Fund.” FIU has always enjoyed a great relationship with FIU as students would only have to cross the street from the University to enjoy the amenities. Music at the event will be provided by L.Calderin (resident DJ at Ink Miami) who is also a guest DJ once a month at FIU's own radio station WRGP Radiate.
Guests will have the opportunity to sip on complimentary cocktails courtesy of Urban Icons Promotions and AMC Promotions. Event goers will also please their palates with tasty hors de oeuvres as they rub elbow with celebrities and VIP's which include United States Billiard Association Director, John Zymeck, Miami's very own world renowned artist Carlos Navarro, Artist Samuel Navedo, Artist Urayoan “Yoa” Paneque, Latin Grammy winner Jorge Moreno, and other “surprise” guests.
Promotional Sponsors for the event include: Camelot Salon & Spa, 10 Cane Rum, Urban Icon Promotions, Edge Title Company, and Prestige Luxury Auto Rentals. The host committee for the event: Jesus Rodriguez, Alex Prado, Orlando Amorin, Arthur “AJ' Meyer, Duane Wiles, Adrian Torres, Robert Santana Jr., Gabriel Pineres, Simon Pineres, Nando Pineres, Eric Pineres, Steve Suarez and Francis Suarez.
