John Schmidt |
As if the field was not strong enough at this week's Viking National Championship, another champion is throwing his hat into the ring. US Open Champion John Schmidt has mended ways with the Viking Tour in time to compete in this week's $25,000 added event.
Schmidt had been fined before he could again compete in Viking Tour events after forfeiting out of the Great Southern Classic and leaving the fan who had purchased him in the player auction with no 'horse' in the tournament.
While complete details are not known, Janis indicated that the fan who purchased Schmidt in the Great Southern Classic player auction is being reimbursed for that purchase and that Schmidt is being welcomed back with open arms.
Janis commented "We are glad to have this incident behind us. The last thing we wanted to do was exclude a player of John's calibre from playing in Viking events, but rules are rules no matter who you are. We are happy that John did the right thing and took care of this matter and we look forward to having the reigning US Open Champion competing in the event this week".
