A hearing was held by the WPC tournament management at which Strickland admitted that his behavior was “completely unacceptable” and apologized for it. However, a news release by Matchroom Sport indicated there were mitigating circumstances stating that “while not excusing his behavior. He (Strickland) did present valid reasons for it, trying not to excuse himself but to explain his conduct.”
The hearing was held after the Chinese-Taipei delegation filed a formal protest against Strickland for threatening to hit Ying-Chieh Chen on his head with his cue stick after the Taiwanese refused to shake Strickland's hand following his 8-6 defeat.
Chen also complained that Strickland constantly got into verbal exchanges with the fans and cursed time and again and also dashed his cue stick after every visit to the table.
Known for his temperamental behavior in the past Strickland accepted the stern warning and promised to change his behavior.
