Tommy Kennedy brought his SE Open 9-Ball Tour to Numan's Billiards in Johnson City, TN this weekend with a field of 37 players fighting it out for the $1000 in added prize money.
Tournament favorite, Tommy Kennedy, dropped a close 7-6 match to 72 year old Bob Fannin from Pikesville KY on Saturday and got to work trying to make his way through the one-loss side. Fannin, on the other hand, remained undefeated until the quarter finals on the winners side where he lost to Brian White 9-5.
Fannin took the trip to the one-loss side where Kennedy was laying in wait. The rematch between Kennedy and Fannin was another close one, but this time it was Kennedy scoring the 9-7 win to send Fannin home in third place.
Kennedy and White then had a very closely contested final match that saw Kennedy lead 9-7, but then fall behind 10-9. In the 20th rack, Kennedy had the chance to get out but missed a makeable 1-ball. Kennedy did not get another chance, as White ran out for the 11-9 victory.
White earned $655 for first place, while Kennedy settled for $500 in prize money. Fannin and Jerry Grooms filled out the top four spots. Mark Pendley was the top junior finisher and Jenora Avery was the top female finisher. They both earned $50 for their finishes.
Kennedy commented that Dan and Jan Numam were great hosts and that the crowd really brought an added level of excitement to the tournament. When Dan Numan is not taking down poker tournaments with his wife, he is busy building his own line of pool tables. And the Numan tables that were used in the tournament 'played like a dream' said Kennedy.
The SE Open 9-Ball Tour will be at Play-Boy Billiards in Lake Worth, FL on October 30th - 31st for their next event.
