Marlon Manalo and Carlo Biado
Filipino pool wizards Carlo Biado and Johann Chua said they are ready and confident for the 10-ball Jogja Open on March 3 to 11, 2018 at the Rama Billiard Jogyakarta in Sewandanan 1, Pakualam Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

“I hope to do well in this event,” said Biado after formally receiving the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Athlete of the Year award on Tuesday at the historic Manila Hotel.

League of Barangays of the Philippines Press Relation Officer and ABC president Marlon "Marvelous" Manalo personally congratulated Biado on his latest feat.

"Congratulation PSA Athlete of the Year Carlo Biado. You made the country proud," said Manalo, a confidante of Biado and a former International Billiards and Snooker champion.

Biado made history when he became the new world 9-ball champion in Doha, Qatar last December.

He became the first Filipino to win the title in 7 years, joining the likes of Efren “Bata” Reyes, Francisco “Django” Bustamante, Alex “The Lion” Pagulayan and Ronato “Volcano” Alcano.

Meanwhile, Orcollo and Pagulayan will be seeing action this week when the prestigious 2018 World Pool Masters gets underway on Saturday at the Tercentenary Sports Hall of the Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar.

Because of their impressive showings in past years, Orcollo and Pagulayan gained entry into the tourney along with 14 other top players in the world.

Orcollo is a former World Pool Masters champion having won the 2010 edition of the tournament and also won the World 8-Ball Championship in 2011 and the World Cup of Pool in 2013.

Pagulayan has been a regular in the world meet. He bagged the 2008 World Pool Masters crown in Las Vegas, Nevada as well as the World 9-Ball Championship title in 2004 in Taipei, Taiwan.

A total of $80,000 cash prize is at stake with the champion getting the lion share of $20,000.
