Souquet ousted by Alcaide
Saturday, 10 November 2012: Today’s single elimination started with several upsets.
Karlo Dalmatin (CRO) eliminated Mario He (AUT) unexpectedly high with 11:5 from the Dynamic Billiards European Open.
On paper, bookmakers would have probably clearly favoured Mario He in this match. But Dalmatin has proven in his performance here so far that he is ready for something big. Up to the score of 3:3, the match was equal. Both players played levelled and that was already an achievement for Dalmatin. After six racks, Dalmatin seemed to shift into overdrive. He came up with a great performance and left few to no chances for He. Mario He, not able to keep the pace with Dalmatin, managed to win two more racks. That was it for him. Dalmatin took the match with 11:5 off He and will now have to deal with Poland’s Radoslaw Babica in the quarter-final.
Another victim of this round was BCA Hall of Famer Ralf Souquet (GER). He just got
smashed by Spain’s David Alcaide with 11:3. Local hero Fabio Petroni (ITA) remained the upper hand over Germany’s Oliver Ortmann and proceeded with 11:8 to the next round. Nr. 1 ranked player Albin Ouschan (AUT) who was almost out and just crossed the finish line with 9:8 over Marcus Chamat last night, played like a total different person today. He beat Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) with 11:6. The Dutch teammates Nick van den Berg and Marc Bijsterbosch both won their matches and will have to play each other in the upcoming quarterfinals.
Quarter-final matches:
Tomasz Kaplan POL - Fabio Petroni ITA
Albin Ouschan AUT - David Alcaide ESP
Nick van den Berg NED - Marc Bijsterbosch NED
Radoslaw Babica POL - Karlo Dalmatin CRO
In the first round of the women’s Euro-Tour, no upsets took place. Ana Majirina (RUS)
defeated Kim Witzel (GER) 7:4. Long-time regular Louise Furberg (SWE) left no chance for her teammate Jessika Nilsson and sent her with 7:1 to the left side of the draw.
