The 2010 Amway Cup got underway on Sunday with four days of qualifying events for the main draw. A total of 44 players were in action looking for their place in the forty eight player main event.
Although Taipei boasted the most players in the qualifiers (twenty two players), it was Korea's Ji Won Hyun who qualified. Hyun beat local hero Yukawa Keiko 7-3 in her first match and won the event with a victory over WPBA Pro Iris Ranola in her final match. Hyun will be placed in Group B, where she will face notables Yu-Ram Cha, Hui-Shan Lai and Veronique Menard.
The second qualifier on day one went to China's Xue Chen who defeated Japan's Yukiko Oi in the final match. Chen was the 2009 Hong Kong East Asian Games Snooker winner and finished in the top eight in the 2009 Women's World Championship. Chen will join Group F where she will face Jasmin Ouschan and Xiao-Ting Pan amongst others.
Those players that did not earn their spots in the main event on day one, will have three more days to hope to fill one of the remaining six available spots.
