As day one of the 33rd Annual US Open 9-Ball Championship winds down, the complete field of 238 players still hold hopes of winning this event. But some will have a bit more work to do than others.
Danny Harriman looked good early in his match against former champion Rodney Morris. Harriman led the match 10-4, but would not win another game as Morris came back for the hill-hill win.
Raj Hundal had his hands full with California's Danny Petralba. Hundal trailed late, but stole the match away with a hill-hill win.
Louis Ulrich looked lost in his tv table match against Rodolfo Luat. Luat took an early lead and kept Ulrich from ever getting comfortable at the table. Luat went on to win the match 11-5.
Defending champion Shane Van Boening had a less than stellar starting match against Zaid Thweib from Jordan. Thweib stayed with Van Boening until 6-6 when Van Boening took control for the 11-7 win.
Last year's runner-up finisher Ronnie Alcano got off to a slow start against Mike Brown and trailed the match early. When Alcano did finally get going, he cruised to an 11-7 win.
Other players looked very strong in their opening matches. Max Eberle, Charlie Bryant, Gabe Owen and Oscar Dominguez all scored commanding wins on day one.
