Spanish Mike Lebron will be honored on February 19, 2006 at his home-town of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico for his selection and induction into the Yabucoa Sports Hall of Fame (Pabellon de la Fama del Deporte Yabucoe?o). Mike Lebron was born "Miguel Benjamin Lebr?n-Laboy on March 31, 1934.
Among Mr. Lebron's most outstanding accomplishments: Winning the 1988 13th Annual US Open 9-Ball Championship and the 1991 International Challenge of Champions. Other achievements include winning the Glass City Open Championships in 1990 against Johnny Archer and in 1992 against Earl Strickland. Mr. Lebron also won the 1986 Sun Coast Open. Spanish Mike has participated in numerous World Championships, was a PBT Touring Pro and was recently selected to participate in the upcoming International Pool Tour.
Every year, the Yabucoa Hall of Fame inducts distinguished sports personalities or sport players that have been born in the town of Yabucoa, located in the south-east of the Island of Puerto Rico. His induction into the Yabucoa Hall of Fame is based on his accomplishments as a one of the best billiard players that Puerto Rico has offered to the World.
The Mayor of Yabucoa, Honorable Angel Garcia de Jesus, will be among the attendees and leading the introductory ceremonies. The event includes an exhibition game against Mr. Alan Rolon, two-time CPB Panamerican 9 Ball Champion, four-time Puerto Rico National 9-ball Champion, and recent player at the 2005 International Challenge of Champions. In addition to the exhibition game, an Open 8-Ball Tournament will be held among the attendees. All Puerto Rican players and fans are invited to attend. The event is free to the General Public.
