Kelly Fisher solidified her hold on the WPBA #1 ranking with her 7-5 win over Vivian Villarreal in the finals of the WPBA Pacific Coast Classic.
Fisher suffered a loss to Yu Ram Cha in the second round of the event, but bounced back with wins over Tiffany Nelson, Dawn Hopkins and Cha to make her way into the final four on Sunday.
Fisher's first match on Sunday was a hill-hill thriller with Karen Corr. Corr knew that she had to defeat Fisher and then win the event in order to re-take the #1 tour ranking. That seemed very unlikely as Fisher shot out to a 6-2 lead. Fisher would have problems notching that final game though, as Corr won four straight games to tie the score at 6-6.
Fisher had the break in the final game and that was the deciding factor as she won that game to earn her place against Villarreal in the finals.
The final match saw Fisher take a two rack lead at 3-1, before Villarreal came back to tie the match at 4-4. Villarreal took her first lead at 5-4, but Fisher quickly got the match back to even at 5-5.
Fisher got to the hill first at 6-5 and it looked like the two players were on their way to another hill-hill match with Villarreal running out to tie the score. Unbelievably, Villarreal missed the 9-ball in that rack and left Fisher a bank shot on the 9. Fisher was up to the challenge and made the 9-ball for the 7-5 win.
