Current World Champion Thorsten Hohmann was in-form today. Easy wins over Mariusz Roter (Poland), Jjan Skvor (Czech Republic) and Jaroslav Polach (Switzerland) led Hohmann to the single elimination stages, where he first survived Double Hill against countryman Thomas Engert: 8-7.
In the quarter finals, he beat Mosconi Cup Captain Oliver Ortmann 8-5 and in the semi-finals he disposed of Kasper Thygesen (Denmark).
In the finals he played in-form Niels Feijen, who came from the one- loss side after losing to Konstanin Stepanov (Russia). Feijen beat Mika Immonen 8-5, Jaroslav Polach and then two countrymen, Rico Diks and Nick van den Berg, 8-6, 8-2. In the match against Van den Berg, Niels won six racks in a row to win the match. In the semi-final, Niels just got the edge over Tom Storm (Sweden) 8-7.
The final was pretty one-sided. Niels couldn't get anything off the break and Thorsten made his way to victory through a three- and four- pack.
Hohmann and Feijen will meet again in the 9-ball tournament, which started Monday.
