The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour was at Color of Money Billiards in Niagara Falls, Canada for their first event ever held on Canadian soil this weekend. A total of 56 players, incluing many of the top Canadian 9-ball players, took their shot in this $5000 added event.
Alex Pagulayan drew Bob Chaperon in the first round and Alex quickly sent Bob on his way to the one-loss side. Alex kept on sending opponents to the left side of the board, his final victim being Mike Davis who fell 9-5 in the hot-seat match.
The one-loss side saw Chaperon bounce back from the loss to Pagulayan. Chaperon won 10 straight matches to get into the true double elimination finals with Pagulayan.
Chaperon scored a hard fought 9-8 victory over Pagulayan in the first set and the crowd was treated to one more match to decide the tournament winner. The second match was almost as close as the first, but this time it was Pagulayan scoring the 9-7 victory.
Pagulayan pocketed $2300 for first, while Chaperon settled for $1600 in second place prize money. Davis and Shawn Putnam filled out the top four spots.
Nello and Linda Robson, the owners of Color of Money Billiards, pulled out all the stops to make this event a great one. They contacted a local cable company who had three cameras filming the final four matches with Mike Zuglan and Joe Lawrence providing expert commentary. This tournament definitely showed that there is a bright future for the Joss Tour in Canada.
The Joss Tour will be at Accu Billiards in New Bedford, MA for their tour finale on May 24th - 25th. Diana Hoppe will be at that event, and we will have complete coverage with brackets, reports and pictures.
