It proved to be a battle of Bills. William Lanna faced and defeated William Whyte twice to take first place in the New England 9-Ball Series stop on Sunday, September 26. The $100-added event drew 40 entrants to Snookers Billiards in Providence, RI.
The Bills battled first among the winners' side final four, with Lanna moving on to the hot seat match, following a 7-2 victory over Whyte. Lanna was joined by Jim Prather, who'd sent Eric Balaise west 5-3. A 6-3 victory over Prather left Lanna in the hot seat waiting for Whyte to return.
Whyte was met on the one-loss side by Dave Bowden, who'd defeated Steve Kang 5-3 and Jason DeAngelo 5-4. Balaise picked up Joe Dupuis, who'd gotten by John Korapusick 6-2 and Van Dmar, in a handicap-assisted 3-6 win. Bowden and Dupuis' tournament bid ended right there, as Balaise and Whyte advanced to the quarterfinals; both with 4-3 wins over Dupuis and Bowden, respectively.
Whyte dropped Balaise into fourth place with a handicap-assisted 4-4 victory, and then dispatched Prather to third place by the same score. In the final ‘Bills' match-up that followed, Lanna allowed Whyte only a single rack on his way to a 7-1 victory that completed his undefeated day.
