The 2024 Mansion Sports Hanoi Open Championship was officially launched on Monday with a pre-tournament press conference at the Hanoi Indoor Games Gymnasium, where the much-anticipated competition will take place from October 8-13.
In partnership with headline sponsor Mansion Sports & Entertainment Group and renowned broadcaster Vietcontent, this glorious World Nineball Tour event promises six days of exhilarating competition, featuring the world’s elite cueists battling for top honours.

The press conference kicked off with defending champion Jayson Shaw, joined by Vietnam’s own pool sensation Duong Quoc Hoang, both of whom are set to be key figures in this year’s tournament.
Reflecting on his return to Vietnam, Shaw, who captured the inaugural Hanoi Open title last year, shared his excitement: “Last year was an probably the best feeling I’ve had winning in front of an incredible crowd in Hanoi. Anyone who wins the Mansion Sports Hanoi open in the future will experience a feeling like no other. Ever since I made that winning 9-ball I;ve dreamt of coming back and I can’t wait to get going again.”
Duong Quoc Hoang, representing Team Asia in the upcoming Reyes Cup, expressed his pride in competing on home soil: “For me, I have difficult choices to stand here today. But when I arrived here and saw the venue and the set up, I knew I had made the right decision. My objective is to keep thistrophy in my country. I want to win.”
Joining Shaw and Hoang on the panel were Mrs Tran Thuy Chi, President and CEO of Vietcontent, and Emily Frazer, CEO of Matchroom Multi Sport.
Mrs Tran Thuy Chi highlighted at the tournament’s success and the overwhelming support from Vietnamese fans: “The number of fans watching last year exceeded all expectations. The Hanoi Open has shown just how strong billiards is here. Vietnam has both world-class players and an incredibly passionate fan base – no other country has a billiards following quite like Vietnam.”
Mrs Tran continued by discussing the long-term goals of Vietnamese billiards: “To create world champions you need training and a concrete programme in place. Competing is just as important, that is the reason that our collaboration with Matchroom can provide more opportunities for players in Vietnam to chase that goal of producing a world champion.”
Emily Frazer expressed her gratitude for the tournament’s return: “This is such a beautiful country here in Vietnam. I want to thank everyone here for making us and the players feel so welcome. It feels like our second home. Who would think this just year two of this tournament, think where we will be in years to come!
Frazer continued by highlighting the broader impact of the event: “The Reyes Cup would not have been launched without the success of the Hanoi Open last year. I cannot express enough how much Hanoi has played a role in our plans for South East Asia and the expansion of the World Nineball Tour in 2025 and onwards.”
Building on the success of its inaugural edition, this year’s tournament promises to be even more thrilling, with a $200,000 prize fund and a 256-player field, including 128 of the world’s top professionals. The Mansion Sports Hanoi Open is set to be one of the highlights of the 2024 pool calendar.
