Stop #2 of the Mezz LA 9 Ball Series at Good Times Billiards started out with a tough field of SoCal pool players, with Michael Hansen (550) taking down his VERY FIRST tournament win in the series! Mike had a great run, defeating Jerry Lazzareschi (643) in a single 9/7 race final.
Mike started the tournament hot, defeating Tim Traver (564) in the first round before a close hill-hill win against Isaac Pineda (543) in round 2. Now getting 3 games on the wire in a race to 7, Mike took a convincing 5-4 win over heavy hitter Ken Johnson (641), but fell short against Doug Byrd (575) and was sent to the B side. Once there, Mike defeated house pro Keegan “K9” Badour (638) 3-2, getting 2 on the wire in a race to 5. With the tournament in his sights, he remained focused the rest of the night and powered through two hill-hill matches against Abet Ng (598) and the man that sent him to the B side, Doug. Once in the final, Mike took advantage of the opportunities given to him, and closed out a very exciting match against Jerry, 7-3.
Jerry had an amazing run as well this stop, despite giving up tons of weight along the way. In round 1, he defeated Rudy Zacarias (376) 7-1, followed by a quick and easy win over Chris Santana (570) in round 2. Round 3 proved a bit more challenging, as Jerry encountered Season Opener Champion Joseph Leon (590), narrowly defeating him hill-hill and giving up one rack on the wire. With only 2 more wins to make it to the finals, Jerry took out the second Zacarias brother Andy (363) before defeating Doug to capture the hotseat.
Congrats as well to all those below that cashed, including newcomer RJ Villasenor (562) for going undefeated in our second $100 Devil’s Table Challenge! RJ defeated Fritz Pascua (500) 4-1 in the final match.
