MATCHROOM SPORT is delighted to announce that the twelfth running of the World Pool Masters will be taking place on from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th September.
Following on from two successful years in Holland, the tournament makes a welcome return to the UK and it is the Dome in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, that has been chosen to host the event.
Once again, promoters Matchroom Sport has put together an exceptionally strong field of some of the greatest pool players in the world and with a US$62,000 prize-fund on offer, including $20,000 to the champion, there is everything to play for.
Making his eagerly anticipated UK debut will be recently crowned World Pool Champion, 16 year-old Wu Chia-ching of Taiwan, who's fearless play landed him pool's greatest prize in July.
Wu will be joined by defending champion, Thomas Engert of Germany, who lifted this title last year in Holland, following a thrilling encounter with fellow countryman Oliver Ortmann.
In addition, star names such as former World Champions Thorsten Hohmann of Germany, Alex Pagulayan (Philippines), and Finland's Mika Immonen will all be vying for the top prize.
The top five ranked players in Europe are in the line-up including ace Dutch pairing of Niels Feijen and current European Champion Alex Lely. They will be joined by Masters veteran Marcus Chamat as well as Eastern European debutants, Sandor Tot (Hungary) and Roman Hybler of the Czech Republic.
Other big names in the 16 man field include recent World Championship bronze medallists, Rodney Morris of the USA and the Philippines' Marlon Manalo.
Representing domestic hopes are 9-ball stalwart Steve Davis, who will be playing in his twelfth consecutive Masters and Raj Hundal, one of the rising forces in European 9-ball, making his Masters debut.
Play commences on the Friday afternoon with three first round matches and continues through Saturday, culminating with the semi-finals and final on Sunday evening.
Friday evening sees the annual trickshot fiesta, the World Pool Trickshot Masters. Now in its tenth year, the Trickshot Masters features six top names, with each performing a twelve-minute routine with a panel of judges deciding the winner.
Players taking part include former winners Bogdan Wolkowski of Poland, Alex Pagulayan as well as six-times World Snooker Champion Steve Davis of England.
Matchroom Sport will be producing 15 x 1 hour of the Masters which will be broadcast around the world on major stations such as Sky Sports in the UK, ESPN Star Sport throughout Asia and Fox Net in the USA.
Tickets for the Masters are FREE and available from the Dome Box Office or from info@matchroom.com
