Labor Day is approaching and it's time again for the longest running Open tournament in the USA.
That being The Texas Open 9 Ball Championships at Skinny Bob's Billiards September 2-5 in Round Rock, Texas.
This is the 38th consecutive event and none have gone off with more enthusiasm than this one.
The new owners have energy and have put much into the Pool Room lately. There is new carpet, newly painted and, yes, the air is working for the predicted heat of Labor Day Weekend.
The event is played on Brunswick Gold Crown III's which have been tightened, newly covered with 860 Blue Simonis HR cloth and new Super Aramith Pro balls on each table. Yes, again, we will be playing with the Measle Ball which is matching to the new set.
The Players meeting will begin at 9:00 PM Friday, September 2. Play will begin Saturday morning at a time to be announced and most likely 11:00 AM.
This is limited to the first 128 paid entrants. Entry Fees are $125 until August 18th and $150.00 after the 18th. This can fill in a hurry, too. To enter online, simply log onto SkinnyBobs.com and follow to pay pal and follow the prompts.
This is race to 9 on both sides and winner break.
The ladies event will have its meeting at 6 PM on Saturday, September 3, and play to begin ASAP. This has an entry fee of $75.00 until August 18, and $100 afterwards.
The ladies will play races to 7 on both sides and winner break as well.
The weekend is $4000 added guaranteed.
All matches will have approximate start times posted well in advance.
There is a dress code meaning collared shirts, no shorts and no open toed shoes. However, Skinny Bob's 38th Annual t-shirts will be on sale and allowed during play.
James Hanshew of Hanshew has again donated another beautiful cue to be raffled. Each one has been something very special to say the least.
Also in attendance as of this posting will be Ron Geyer of the Custom Cue Connection with his fine collection and also great cue repairs, as well as Joe Salazar and his great collection of cues and incredible war stories!!
