The World Cup of Pool will bring together all the biggest names in the World of Pool as they chase the title that was won in dramatic style by Mika Immonen and Petri Makkonen for Finland in Manila last year.
Previous holders of this renowned title include Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante of the Philippines (twice), Shane Van Boening and Rodney Morris (USA), Germany’s Ralf Souquet and Thorsten Hohmann and the Chinese pair of Li Hewen and Fu Jianbo (also twice).
Commented Matchroom Sport’s Barry Hearn, “After six successful years overseas, we’ve decided to bring the World Cup home and there is no finer venue for pool anywhere in the world than the York Hall.
“With two England teams represented we will have four of the best players in the world gunning for the title and I can see one of them going all the way. It won’t be easy though with sheer depth of pool talent competing but I think if the home fans can create a bit of the old Mosconi atmosphere then anything is possible.”
